foggy

Had a photoblogger meet up this morning in the south loop area - good to see the guys again. Kind of a crap day for photos tho... I got a fun snap on my way to meet everyone, but nothing of substance while we were walking around. We ventured to the Maxwell St market and that was quite the experience. Some VERY random items being sold there...

I didn't really feel comfortable busting out the camera for fear that I'd get yelled at by one of the vendors... We did find an interesting grouping of signs at the back of an empty parking lot. I have no idea what these are actually for though. I had to really pull the color out of this one - taken with the new S90 - I feel like it's a little on the "sharp" side, I need to figure out how to change a setting or run some noise ninja on the images. Testing Lightroom 3 beta and it's a smidge different from 1.0 that I've been so used to...

Anyhoo, I can check another thing off of the "I've never done that" list. I've heard about the Maxwell Market, but have just never gone. Don't think I will ever have the need to go back, but you just never know!

yffoto.com :: bokeh bokeh

After a day of fun with the girls in the loop, I strapped on my snow pants and headed for the lakefront for some icy Chicago photos along Fullerton beach. As the sun went down and the lights started to pop, I went out of focus ... Chicago. She's so pretty.

sweet home chicago

How is it possible, that after fourteen years of living in Chicago, that I still get that 'feeling' when I see the city's skyline?  That feeling of, damn, I'm lucky to live in such a beautiful place.
Coming home tonight - merging onto Lake Shore Drive at McCormick Place, the city lights started to peek over the horizon.  Rounding the museum campus and you are in full view of the most beautifully lit city.  Extra lights this time of year for the holidays too.  Willis Tower, John Hancock Building and Soldier Field are all lit in red and green.  White twinkle lights on the trees in front of every building along the lakefront.  Zoo lights!

It's dreamy!  Just dreamy!

night shot goodness

Stopped along the lakefront - museum campus - to snap a few shots of the city and ended up loving what I was getting from Navy Pier!  I am totally loving what's going on with the reflections in both the bokeh and regular shots.  I processed a couple of ways - again I couldn't decide which I like better.  This seems to be a problem now that I have all these awesome 'actions' to choose from.

P.S.  I really need to have my sensor cleaned - I'm seeing spots!

Architecture of Chicago - Wikipedia

Chicago skyline labelled.jpg

OK, so I have to admit that I don't know the names to ALL of the buildings along Chicago's major skyline. I know, I've lived here for almost 15 years and probably should, but who can keep up? I hit Wikipedia today and found this image - how helpful is that? I need to keep this in my back pocket so when someone asks about a building I'll have a cheat sheet!

Isn't this detail just amazing? This whole building is so ornate, it's unbelievable!

There's something about this shot of the city that I really love. It just feels like Chicago - hard to explain, but...it does.

I will leave this beautiful city tomorrow for picturesque Paris and amazing Amsterdam to visit my BFF E and Goddaughter Zoe. I'm super excited even though it looks like rain the first couple of days in Paris. I will have to get good reflection shots and unique umbrellas. Not sure what to do about the camera getting wet... take a chamois?

My old roomie, and travel mate, has not packed a thing or even looked at one travel book or website to see what these cities have to offer. For the planner in me, it kills me, but then I look at it this way ... she'll go where ever I want to go!! Love her for that!

My only question is weather it's worth a whole day outside the city to visit Versailles. Suggestions anyone??

Pritzker Pavillion - it's pretty cool sitting on the lawn even when there's nothing going on in the park. Millennium Park is such a great public space - a must if you're visiting Chicago.
