Can anyone tell me what you have to do to get your photos seen on Flickr? I mean really? I used to have a ton of visitors to my stream and now it's a few hit or misses from my current contacts. I get a random add of a new contact, but rarely any comments. I have not had one photo in "explore" for the last year and a half, maybe more. How does that work? I think my work has gotten better, so why was it more recognized in the early day?

I will admit I'm not super involved in groups or commenting on other streams, but do check from time to time and comment/fav when something really stands out. I've hit explore a few times during my last visits and it seems to be all the same streams OR completely random crap. Is there some algorithm that pulls this stuff?

The above image was uploaded last night. I received one comment & fav from one contact and it has been viewed eight, yes, EIGHT times. How is that possible? I mean, I know it's because only my contacts are looking at my stream, but how is that possible?

I don't ask these questions because I need recognition or validation, but I simply find it odd that the activity on my stream has come to a complete halt. I miss seeing what people have to say. That's why I joined Flickr in the first place - I learn from my peers. Now it seems that Flickr is nothing more than another version of photo sharing.

Maybe I should blame it on social media. : )

** edit

Found this link and find it somewhat helpful, but not really.  I know he has amazing work and a sh*t ton of views!

paris - the beginnings

I've been editing photos all day and am only partially through the second day's photos.  My eyes are crossed, my neck and back hurt and I think I'm developing carpel tunnel.  Oy!  I could just upload directly out of the camera - most are fine, but I want to make them great and to do that they need some processing.  I have to say, so far I think the lugging around of all the gear was worth it.

I might change it up for future trips though.  Carrying the 24-70L about killed me.  Especially because I shot so much with my 10-20.  I think in the future I will get a better point and shoot, something like the Canon G11.  It shoots RAW and would be waaaaay more portable than the 40D + extras.  Or I might go all prime.  It would likely be lighter than the beast I was hauling around.  Dunno.

I will say that I love my shootsac!  I carried this for eight days straight and it did start to wear on my shoulder a bit (even with the extra pad) but overall it was spectacular.  I like that it hugs my body and doesn't get in the way too much.  Everything in Europe is small - store aisles, churches, stairwells ... the more compact you can be the better.

Oh and I had purchased new straps for my camera and tripod - SO glad I did that.  I bought the Op/Tech pro strap for both and I have to say I was skeptical of the claims about "equipment feeling 50% lighter."  I will tell you it's completely true!

I used my *emera bag to carry everything on the plane - this worked great because it looks like a purse rather than a bag.  So when connecting through Heathrow I got no hassle having that and another bag.

parisian photo inspiration

I hope my Paris set will be as good as this one. Her photos are amazing... I will have to find patience for the long exposure!

Natasha has been one of my Flickr contacts for some time now.  She takes amazing photos with dreamy processing - mostly of flowers and such.  She's been posting photos from Italy and France and I found a link to her blog ... oh does her writing remind me of my trip to these to amazing countries!  It's totally getting me ready for Paris!  And she gave a link to this amazing little apartment she's renting in Paris... I must find something super cute like that!  Karen hasn't found us any deals at hotels through her connections yet, so I'm going to continue looking for little apartments!
